The sport is very big in Canada and Finland. It is also played in Sweden, USA, Russia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Abu Dhabi and France.

History

One of the world’s biggest sports, ice hockey, has its cradle in Canada. But, only boys were allowed to play hockey. Therefore, Sam Jacks began to think about what could be developed for catching the interest of sports on ice for girls.

He came up with a faster sport on ice than ice hockey, which does not allow tackles – but requires a lot of talent and a lot of skating technique if you want to be a good player.

Sam named the sport Ringette, which means little ring in French.
